June 7th 2008

TIckets for the John Dankworth evening have SOLD OUT.

June 5th 2008

In addition to the recent sad news about our patron Humphrey Lyttelton's passing. We are sorry to report that Campbell Burnap died suddenly on the 30th May. Our deepest sympathies go out to Campbell's family. We still plan to continue with the event on Friday 27 June. The evening will celebrate the music Campbell loved, led by his old friend and Mill Hill favourite, Ron Drake. Campbell's All Star group is comprised of Ron Drake, clarinet & tenor sax; Andy Dickens, trumpet & vocals; Dave Hewett, trombone & baritone horn; Richard Busiakiewicz, piano; Peter Morgan, bass and Rod Brown, drums. All were good friends of Campbell's, and want to celebrate his life and music in the best possible way - playing tunes that he loved, and entertaining one of his favourite audiences in the way he would have liked. If you have any questions please get in touch either by email at enquiries@millhillmusicfest.co.uk or you can contact Daniel on 020 8420 6594.

Once again, the Festival was another great success with many of the evenings selling out. Our opening evening concert began with the first public performance of a newly-commissioned setting of a John Keble poem. The Festival continued to be a great success with truely splendid performance by British Youth Opera, a fantastic evening of jazz from the Scott Hamilton Quartet Plus Two, and a fascinating evening of klezmer from Gregori Schechter and the Wandering Few. The Festival with the first London performance of Jonathan Willcock's choral composition, A Great and Glorious Victory. This worked charts the moving aftermath of Trafalgar, an appropriate counterpoint the choir's triumphant performance of the Nelson Mass at the 2005 Festival. And Kenny Charles' Ebony Silk Band saw in the Festival's close at our Party Night at the Mill Hill Sports Club. We are once again very grateful to all our sponsors, friends and helpers, in particular, Waitrose Mill Hill,  Adnams, Mill Hill Music Complex, and the John Lewis Partnership.

June 26th 2006

This year marked another anniversary for the Mill Hill Music Festival. It was ten years since the wonderful Humphrey Lyttelton agreed to be a patron of the Festival and we were honoured and delighted that he agreed to bring his band back this year to mark the occasion. These days “Humph” is thought of by many as a national treasure but, with his distinguished band alongside him, he
once again reminded us why he is one of the UK’s jazz legends. Another much loved and enduring Festival favourite joined us on Saturday 24th and once again The Campbell Burnap Jazz Band was a tremendous success. On Friday 23rd we were delighted to have the company of two rising young stars at our ‘Next Big Thing’ evening. Georgia Mancio's seductive Brazilian and Chilean rhythms amidst the jazz standards and bittersweet originals were fantastic. The evening was made even more special by a guest appearance from 14 year old sensation Joe Gibbons, who sang a number of songs from the Great American Songbook. With Sunday afternoon's performance from the New Orleans Jazz Band, lunchtime at the Three Hammers was made all the better... We are grateful, once again, to all those whose support has made the 2006 Midsummer Jazz possible; in particular, our thanks to Pizza Express, Adnams, Mill Hill Music Complex.

May 2006

We are pleased to announced an added bonus to our NEXT BIG THING evening on Friday 23rd. In addition to the seductive voice of Georgia Mancio, as part of our evening's entertainment, we will have the pleasure of listening to another up and coming rising young star, Joe Gibbons. Despite still being in school, jazz industry insiders are tipping this teenager to be the next jazz phenomenon. Joe is currently working on developing his own repertoire drawing on the Great American Songbook. So come and hear for yourself....

July 2005

The Sixth Mill Hill Music Festival was another resounding success, with music from all genres being performed around Mill Hill. We would like to extend our thanks to all of our sponsors, performers and, of course, to everyone that has given and continues to give us their support, thus making all the effort worthwhile.
